‘This is our house’. The most beautiful real photo postcards of The Hague and Scheveningen was published in 1997 and has been reprinted at the end of 2000. So many new cards have come to light that Wim de Koning Gans was able to compile a new photo book. Half of the photos are from private collections. The text is in Dutch!
The cards used for the book are real photos printed on paper thick enough for postal use. They have no publisher, and only a few are stamped by the photographer. Photographers captured a row of houses or sometimes a whole street to sell the photos to the people living there. Quite a few people marked their house before sending these cards (‘This is our house’). On some cards can be read that a dozen or two dozen copies had been bought. Most of these cards are very rare.
